New fabric from Warema reduces risks during fire

Warema has expanded its range of internal and external sun shading products to include curtains made in-house with non-flammable fabric qualities. The fabrics are certified to DIN 4102-1 A2 (non-flammable).

The primary danger posed to life and limb when fire breaks out comes not only from flames but also from toxic combustion gases. Minimising the associated risk is a challenge that starts as early as when planning the design of a building. Sun shading systems with the Warema SecuTex-fabric A2 are able to rise to this challenge. The fabric is used both internally on construction project roller blinds and externally on window awnings.

Fire accelerant sun shading system
In a fire, the fabric, which is coated with glass fibres, does not release any toxic gases, and only produces a minimum amount of smoke. In an emergency, this proves to be a decisive advantage over conventional fabrics. When flames spread to a textile sun shading product, the product can quickly turn into a fire accelerant for the entire room or for the facade. The weatherproof fabric does not contain PVC, nor does it produce odour emissions. All of these features are important aspects for attaining building sustainability certificates.

Level of comfort
Along with high safety standards for certification, the fabric also meets all requirements of a high-performance modern product for sun shading and glare protection. It prevents the uncomfortable effects of glare and reflects unwanted heat radiation yet can still be relied upon for sufficient transparency. The fabric comes in three different tones of grey and has an aluminium vapour coating. The aluminium vapour coating, known as low-e coating, is of crucial benefit at cold times of the year, as it helps to retain the heat inside the room. Furthermore, the fabric poses absolutely no risk to the environment and is sustainable.

Benefits at a glance

  • Tested safety – certified as ‘non-flammable’ in accordance with DIN 4102-1 A2
  • Hard-wearing fabric – suitable for use in humid environments and resistant to detergents
  • Flexible application – suitable for both internal and external use
  • Improved room acoustics – thanks to high noise absorption level
  • Environmentally friendly quality – PVC-free and halogen-free
  • During a fire – produces minimum amounts of smoke and emits no toxic combustion gases.
